Within a period of 48 hours, I have paid a visit to the dentist, the optician and the physiotherapist. On completion of all three trips, I have concluded that, in order to undertake the recommended maintenance from each of these professionals, I either need more hours in the day, or something in my daily routine needs to give way.
Let me explain…
The Dentist
Let’s face it, rarely at my age does a dentist give you a clean bill of health and a sticker, telling you they look forward to seeing you next year.
Oh no, lots of poking and prodding, where they randomly call out numbers and letters of the teeth that are way past their sell by date. They may as well have one of those money counting barometers on the ceiling and as the dentist calls out ‘upper D3’, the price increases in front of your very eyes. At least you would get the opportunity to shout out ‘stop, that’s enough, I can’t afford any more’.
Anyway, as well as robbing me blind of my life savings, I was told I had to find the time to brush and floss three times a day. Hold that thought.
The Optician
I made a bit of a fool of myself in there. Just as I was about to commence the obligatory reading of the letter board, the optician inadvertently gestured towards her PC, whilst verbally asking me to read the top line. Me, being a guy who tends to do what he is told, started reading from the PC, which was about two feet away from me.
She politely and professionally reminded me it was the letters on the wall and, when I then had a fit of the giggles, she again politely waited with the patience of a saint for me to compose myself.
I honestly thought it was some new-fangled approach to eye testing.
Anyway, the outcome being I have dry eyes. Treatment? Eye drops circa four times a day; plus, one of those heated blindfolds over my eyes (warm, not roasting, I will never, ever do that again, jeeze it was painful), twice a day for about five minutes.
The Final Trip – The Physio
Problem identified. Outcome; a set of exercise, seven in total, three times a day, multiple repetitions for each exercise.
It took me an hour or so to complete the first set, because I am a bit like Bambi on ice when doing this kind of stuff. More time spent on maintenance of my ageing body.
But, how on earth do I find the time to do all the extra brushing, flossing, dropping, heating, stretching and repeating required just to encourage my body to remain in the condition it currently is, not even to improve it!
Nobody warns you this is what happens at a certain time of life.
And I am not a fan!
Until next time.
